Colleagues club together for Gordon

This year’s ‘NASA Gordon Craig Memorial Golf Day’ was another huge success – as friends and former colleagues took to the fairways to remember a truly great guy.

Taking place at Ravenspark, Irvine, on 10 May, the annual Golf Day – a tribute to Gordon, former Chairperson and one of the original founders of NASA, who sadly passed away in 2019 – featured 19 former friends and colleagues.

The day started off with the 7-hole shoot-out which was a closely contested affair, with the event being settled on handicap after 4 of the 5 teams completed the 7 holes in 28 shots.

In the end, the final scores were:

Position Net Score Team
1st 16.55 > John Scott, Graeme Robin, Gavin Alcroft, Stewart Frew
2nd 18.40 > Robert Robb, Steven Ferguson, Malcolm Craig
3rd 18.60 > Greg Brown, David Stirling, James Gaffney
4th 18.90 > Gareth Picken, Colin Alcroft, Thom Ledingham, Andrew Hale

“Gordon was a great guy and missed by us all. It’s nice to get do something to remember and pay tribute to him.

“In addition to the usual support by NASA, the event was this year also supported by Livewell, with the major objective being to use golf as a way to encourage work colleagues to socialise and use golf as a means of exercise. Thanks to everyone that took part, it was a brilliant day to remember…”

A highlight of this year’s staff events calendar

The event was organised by Regeneration Officer Gareth Picken.

He said: “Gordon was a great guy and missed by us all. It’s nice to get do something to remember and pay tribute to him.

“In addition to the usual support by NASA, the event was this year also supported by Livewell, with the major objective being to use golf as a way to encourage work colleagues to socialise and use golf as a means of exercise.

“Thanks to everyone that took part in the day and a big thank you to the Provost, Malcolm Craig, and Colin Alcroft for their generous donations.”

After lunch, the main event, The Gordon Craig Memorial Cup, got underway in almost near-perfect conditions. The scoring, whilst not as good as in previous years, was still competitive and close.

The winner of The Gordon Craig Memorial Cup for 2024 was Mr Allan Dickson (HSCP Clerical Officer)! Congratulations Allan!
