International Internal Audit Awareness Month

Did you know, the month of May is International Audit Awareness Month? The word ‘audit’ doesn’t necessarily conjure up ideas of the most exciting topic for discussion for those outwith the industry, nor is it a dark art confined to the halls of Hogwarts Castle!

The mission of internal audit is to protect and enhance organisational value by providing risk-based and objective assurance, advice and insight.

The provision of assurance services is the primary role for the Council’s Internal Audit Team and this is set out in the annual Internal Audit Plan. However, the team are also here to provide advice, guidance and consultancy to services around internal control arrangements.

Time is set aside within the annual audit plan to enable the Internal Audit Team to carry out small areas of unplanned work as they arise during the year.

With this in mind, do you have any new or changed areas of risk within your remit, or processes/procedures that you have amended (including new or changed control arrangements post-covid)? Or would you simply like to know more about what the Internal Audit Team can do to support your team? If so, get in touch at InternalAuditSM@north-ayrshire.gov.uk where the team will be happy to have a chat with you and offer their expertise.
