Global PC shortages update

The shortage of semiconductor chips, the “brain” within every electronic device in the world, is set to continue in to 2022. The Council and its suppliers are not immune to this shortage and are experiencing delays in the supply of new PCs and other technology equipment.

As you would expect, the Council and its suppliers are not immune to this shortage and are experiencing delays in the supply of new PCs and other technology equipment. This is impacting the Council’s on-going PC replacement programme and IT’s ability to replace broken PC devices.

Current delivery timescales for laptops is 24 weeks and the Council’s earliest delivery is scheduled for November. IT are investigating other temporary options for critical device supply.

IT Services have a small stock of new HP laptops. However, until our device stocks are replenished by incoming orders, these will be used to replace broken devices where the service need is most urgent.
