Reminder of Youth Parliament sessions happening this week

Drop-in sessions have been arranged so that young people aged 14-25 who are thinking of running for Scottish Youth Parliament can ask questions and find out more about what is involved.

14 to 15-year-olds interested in running for Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) now have until Friday 1 September 2023 to register online: https://tinyurl.com/apply23SYP

Four seats are up for grabs in North Ayrshire as the SYP is on the look-out for the next young representatives for Scotland, as the current two-year tenure comes to an end.

But anyone keen to express an interest in standing as a candidate is urged to act quickly so that our Youth Services team can work alongside local candidates to ready them for the SYP election phase in November 2023.

Once registered, North Ayrshire Youth Services will help you every step of the way.

If you are not 100% sure if the opportunity is right for you, email: youthwork@north-ayrshire.gov.uk or why not come along to one of the upcoming information sessions being held 7pm-9pm at:

  • Tuesday 22 August – Woodlands Centre, Irvine (Lounge)
  • Wednesday 23 August – Ardrossan Civic Centre (Castlecraigs Lounge)
  • Monday 28 August – West Kilbride Community Centre (Arran Room)

These drop-ins are for anyone interested in becoming an MSYP – you don’t have to have registered already however it is beneficial for Youth Services that you do so they can have full visibility of the interested candidates.

If you know a young person who is interested please encourage them to register. Remember – even once registered they are not fully committed to take any action just yet, it is simply a declaration of interest, then, Youth Services can meet with them to discuss the next steps and help decide if they are up for the incredible opportunity.
