Making documents accessible training sessions

Visibility Scotland are running free accessible communications training sessions for professionals in March/April.

These are taking place on Zoom and will focus on how to create accessible documents using MS Office, with a particular focus on how to format and structure Word documents to make them more accessible for people with a visual impairment.

If you wish to take part, speak to your line manager then click on the links below to register for your preferred session.

Intro to Visual Impairment and Making Documents Accessible (2-hour session)

Providing an introduction to visual impairment awareness and making documents accessible, the session will be split into two parts and will include a comfort break. It will cover different types of sight loss and the common difficulties that may be experienced by individuals living with a visual impairment, exploring some of the aids and equipment that can help, including assistive technologies such as screen readers and screen magnification software. The second half will cover practical tips for making Word documents and information materials accessible.

Introduction to Making Documents Accessible (90 minute session)
Communication should be inclusive, not exclusive. The Zoom training session will cover practical tips that can be put into practice day to day to ensure that the documents and information materials you create are accessible. The session will cover Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint and will include an on-screen demonstration of creating an accessible Word document. Sessions are as follows:

Bespoke sessions (delivered via MS Teams or Zoom) are also available for organisations that have a group of staff interested in the training. Sessions are free.
