Plastic Smart campaign continues

Since the beginning of March, the Council’s ‘Plastic Smart’ promotional campaign has been making a splash on our social media channels to raise public awareness throughout North Ayrshire of the upcoming Single Use Plastics Ban.

The Council’s Plastic Smart Campaign continues as Scotland’s single-use plastics ban will come into effect on Wednesday 1 June 2022.

So what are the next steps?

The Scottish Government has commenced work to inform future policy development on other single-use products, including single-use plastic items and single-use food products including: single-use food containers, plastic bowls, trays and platters, plastic sachets e.g. condiment sachets used in hospitality settings and plastic packaging on fruit and vegetables.

This work compliments Scottish Government’s efforts to tackle other single-use plastic products, including single-use beverage cups and wet wipes containing plastic which have recently commenced.

For information on the ban, exemptions, how you can reduce your usage of damaging plastics, protecting our environment, community initiatives and case studies on plastic reduction across Council services please visit www.north-ayrshire.gov.uk/PlasticSmart

Please follow and continue to share the campaign on the Council’s corporate social media pages – Twitter (@North_Ayrshire) and Facebook (@NorthAyrshireOfficial) to help us spread the word.
