Supporting your Learning and Development

The Corporate Learning & Organisational Development training programme has continued to successfully run online via MS Teams throughout the pandemic.

This year saw over 50 corporate training courses running virtually and more courses are on the horizon, due to be added online early next year.

Of the above, the Council’s diverse offering of online courses delivered included: Coaching and Feedback, Journey Into Leadership, Leading People through Change, Our Time to Talk and Managing Stress to name a few…

And new courses delivered virtually for the first time this year included, Wellbeing@Work, designed to support the launch of the new Supporting Attendance Policy – found on Connects here.

Thank you for your feedback…

We heard from some colleagues who have taken part in the new virtual courses…

Sonia Sharkie, Team Leader in Customer Services commented: “There had been a lot of changes in how we worked due to the Covid-19 pandemic and I wanted to see what I could do to support my team throughout this, so I enrolled on the Leading People Through Change course.

“It was very informative and I enjoyed learning ways to actively help and support people.  Being delivered online didn’t affect my enjoyment of the course at all, it was obviously a little different from face-to-face training, but it was all explained in terms I could understand and actually use.”

And, Team Leader William Tomelty reaped the benefits of enrolling in the Recruitment & Selection course, he shared: “Working in the Procurement Team, I needed to improve my knowledge of the Council’s Recruitment & Selection Policy as I was about to be involved in recruiting within our team.  I have also been following the Leadership Academy programme so attending Recruitment & Selection was the next natural and timely step for my personal and career development.

“The virtual course was really beneficial. I was impressed at how L&OD have made use of a variety of different mechanisms to learn. Examples of this included a mix of pre-reading, polls, quizzes (via e-forms) and the break out groups were especially good, helping us to put what we had learned into practice as well as hearing other employees perspectives.

“The L&OD team’s knowledge is second to none, and considering the current working from home situation, they went above and beyond while delivering the training to keep everyone engaged, motivated, and thinking outside the box – excellent.”

So what’s coming next?

2022 will be no different, with plenty of new and exciting courses coming online for the very first time, including Customer Service which has been adapted for Virtual delivery.

Run successfully as a pilot earlier this year, feedback from the new Customer Service course has been encouraging so far with delegates sharing that it was useful to learn new approaches.

It is sure to be a popular for 2022, so get your team member nominations in now to get on the Customer Service course waiting list for the new year! Below is a flavour of some of the courses to come…

Keep an eye on the course schedule and directory on Connects for further dates and course info.

As always, if you want to get on one of these courses do so through your Line Manager who will nominate you through CHRIS (our HR & Payroll system). The courses are currently scheduled according to demand so even if the course you want is not listed get your name in as it can’t run until minimum numbers are reached.
