Take extra care as we approach Christmas and New Year

In light of the increasing number of cases of the Omicron Covid variant, we are urging all staff to take additional care as we approach Christmas and New Year.

Unfortunately, this may mean considering postponing any seasonal staff parties or gatherings you may have been planning to attend.

Public Health Scotland have already confirmed a number of outbreaks caused by Omicron have been linked to staff Christmas parties.

Deferring get-togethers will help to protect ourselves, others and ease pressure on the NHS during the exceptionally busy winter period.

Early evidence suggests that the Omicron variant is much more transmissible than previous strains and even receiving the first two doses of the vaccine may not offer enough protection to prevent you from catching Covid.

We understand that after another challenging year, many people would have been looking forward to a festive celebration with their work colleagues however, we all have a role to play in minimising the chances of transmission and keeping each other safe.

So, if you are planning to attend or organise a Christmas or New Year staff party, please consider rescheduling to a time when the dangers posed by the new Covid variant have diminished.

In the meantime, please ensure you take the opportunity to get double vaccinated and receive the booster jag to give yourself the best possible protection.  More information on receiving the booster is available here.

Have a safe Christmas and a happy New Year.
