Welcome to Your Vote Week 2023

Welcome to Your Vote Week 2023 is taking place from 30 January to 5 February. Across North Ayrshire,  schools, colleges and youth groups will be using the campaign to engage with young people on the importance of democracy and making their voices heard.

Run by the Electoral Commission,  the theme of this year’s Welcome to Your Vote Week is #OurDemocracy, highlighting the range of ways young people can get involved and make their voices heard.

Schools and youth groups across the country are being called on to take part in ‘Welcome to Your Vote’ week.

This week, North Ayrshire teachers, youth workers and community groups will all be working together to emphasise the importance of democracy by using this year’s helpful Your Vote Week pack of free resources and activities.

If you work with young people, there’s still time to sign up to receive the free resources which include:

  • Lesson plans and interactive activities
  • A presentation for use at democracy events or assemblies
  • Posters and social media resources.

Sign up now to receive your Welcome to Your Vote Week resources.

And remember, if you’re starting conversations with young people this week and are planning to share your highlights on social media, remember to use the hashtags #WelcomeToYourVote and #OurDemocracy to help spread the word further.

North Ayrshire Council’s Youth Participation and Citizenship Strategy sets out how young people across North Ayrshire can play an active role in their schools and communities.

From getting involved in Scottish Youth Parliament, Youth Forums, Pupil Councils, North Ayrshire Youth Council, Youth Groups, Eco Committees, Sports Leadership, Peer Education – there’s a host of ways that young people can make their voices heard.

If you are working with a young person who would like to make their mark by volunteering, joining a pupil council, area forum or youth council, or someone who would like to become a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament, contact the Council’s Youth Participation Officer – Donna Anderson: danderson@north-ayrshire.gov.uk – for more information.
