Property rationalisation and office moves

As the refurbishment to the Ground Floor of Cunninghame House nears completion, we have an important update for all staff regarding the Irvine Locality Property Review and continuing programme of office rationalisation.

Office moves continue as part of the Council’s wider (locality-based) Estates Strategy to rationalise our property portfolio, reduce running costs and maximise Council services. Thanks to hybrid working, we are now in a position to host more colleagues at Cunninghame House.

From Monday 18 May 2026, North Ayrshire Council’s Customer Service Centre located at Bridgegate House Irvine and the Housing Advice Team located at Galt House will move to Cunninghame House.

As part of this change, North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership, Housing and Customer Service Centre teams will now be permanently based within Cunninghame House.

Although a number of public services are already hosted at our headquarters, the new public services that will be provided at Cunninghame House from Monday 18 May 2026 will include registration of births, deaths and marriages, homeless support and housing advice.

Until then, services will remain at Bridgegate House and Galt House as normal.

The refurbishment of the Ground Floor reception has seen the creation of a new check-in area including two new service desks and six customer interview rooms. The Cunninghame House defibrillator will still be located at the ground floor reception area.

Important guidance for colleagues

Public access and confidentiality: Following these changes, staff are likely to notice an increase in members of the public attending appointments within Cunninghame House.

Please be mindful of confidentiality at all times, as conversations may be overheard in shared areas and ensure documents and equipment are not left unattended, such as within toilet areas.

A new digital meeting check-in system will now operate for customer appointments - this includes all external visitors (such as the public and external partners):

staff must log the date, time and attendee details for any meeting with external attendees held within the building. Further details on this will be provided in due course
when a customer checks-in at reception, you will receive an email notification that your attendee has arrived
it is the responsibility of the hosting officer to escort the customer from reception to the meeting room, accompany them during their visit and ensure they leave the building safely, including during any fire evacuations
visitors to our building must never move around Cunninghame House unescorted
the maximum lift capacity is 800kg, therefore if you have multiple people attending a meeting on another floor two lifts may need to be used - colleagues should therefore take this into consideration and before attending reception to collect a group of people, request in advance the support of a team member or, in exceptional circumstances only, a Council Officer if available to ensure no visitors to our building are moving unescorted
walk-in appointments will still be welcomed, and these will operate via a ticketed system

Staff Requirements

With increased public access to Cunninghame House, all staff are requested to enter the building either via the rear door (adjacent to Marress House) or via the staff entrance at the front of the building (ASDA side) – not via the main reception (with the exception of those with mobility requirements who should still use the main entrance)

For any colleagues that do not have access to Cunninghame House e.g. those attending training, a new buzzer has been installed that will contact the Council Officers to enable access once a team member has verified your identity.

All staff must display their North Ayrshire Council ID to gain access to Cunninghame House and at all times while within the building, without exception.

Staff are also reminded to not allow entry to anyone without a NAC badge. Should someone not display an NAC ID badge but are in the building, please ask if they require assistance. If they are not employees, escort them to reception and contact the Council Officers to ensure the incident is logged.

These arrangements reflect the building‑wide protocols already in place to support safe operations and good customer experience.

Both the Customer Service Team at Bridgegate House and the Housing Advice Team at Galt House will officially close at these locations from 3pm on Friday 15 May. The services provided will reopen at 10.30am on Monday 18 May at Cunninghame House. Posters will be on display at each location to direct members of the public to the new service location.

For customers requiring to get in touch, the teams can still be contacted via the usual telephone numbers 01294 310000 (Customer Services) and 01294 314600 (Housing Advice Team) or they can visit Saltcoats Town Hall Customer Service Centre.
