Reminder about how colleagues can support residents

The Cost-of-Living Crisis is still having an impact on the lives of many residents across North Ayrshire.

Too many families are still struggling to make ends meet and pay for essentials like food, housing and heating.

This is where our No Wrong Door approach can help.

Lots of colleagues will already be familiar with No Wrong Door – which basically encourages council staff to direct residents to the right information they need to access vital cost-of-living support, while they are carrying out the fantastic work they already do in the course of their working day.

Building upon the positive culture of our organisation

No Wrong Door was launched to build on existing efforts to ensure that residents can access the funding or support they need – whether this is in relation to paying energy bills, accessing education or finding out more about state benefits.

This approach aims to build on the existing positive culture among council employees and partner organisations to help ensure that residents are quickly and effectively directed to the crucial information they require at the earliest opportunity.

In practical terms, this means that when any council employee is asked by members of the public for Cost-of-Living information they simply do their best to help.

We started hosting information sessions just over a year ago, therefore many staff will already be familiar with the No Wrong Door approach. In line with our staff values –Focus. Passion. Inspiration – we are asking all employees to bear in mind that doing something as simple as giving a resident our Customer Services phone number - 01294 310000 – genuinely could kick-start some positive change and financial support for them. If a member of the public reaches out to you in the course of your usual Council business, regardless of which service you work in, please do your best to point them in the right direction for cost-of-living support. All you need to do is direct them to Customer Services whether they are looking for help to buy school uniforms for their children, need advice about housing or want to know more about getting a Council Tax reduction.

Reminder about how colleagues can support residents

Reducing child poverty and alleviating financial stress is a priority for the council, and a flyer packed with useful information on the crisis support has been printed for distribution among residents.

The leaflet contains information on foodbanks, community larders and other support services available to residents.

If you would like some copies of the leaflet to pass on to your own service users, please email Michelle Emberson, Customer Service Team Leader to arrange collection from Cunninghame House.

Please include the name of your team and the number of copies you would like in the email. Lanyard cards with the Customer Services phone number on them are also available from Michelle. These slide in behind your photo ID card – making it easy to hand the number over to members of the public who ask for help. These can also be kept in car glove boxes, laptop bags, kit bags etc.

If you would like some lanyards cards, more information or feel your team would benefit from some training around No Wrong Door, please email Michelle.
