Council supports Scottish Breastfeeding Week

This week is Scottish Breastfeeding Friendly Week.
Did you know that North Ayrshire Council is a Breastfeeding Friendly employer?
This week marks Scottish Breastfeeding Week, and we are proud that North Ayrshire Council is part of the Breastfeeding Friendly Scotland Scheme.
As a breastfeeding-friendly employer, we are committed to supporting employees to continue breastfeeding on their return to work, where they choose to do so.
Our HR Guide - Breastfeeding in the Workplace outlines the support available to both employees and managers, including practical advice, workplace adjustments, and information on rights and responsibilities.
Breastfeeding can bring significant benefits for both mother and child, and continuing this support in the workplace is an important part of creating a positive and inclusive working environment.
We also have dedicated facilities available within Cunninghame House on the 3rd Floor West, including a mothering room designed to provide a private, accessible and supportive space for nursing mothers to express and store milk or to enable infants to be breastfed at work.
To help raise awareness and celebrate our commitment, we are inviting colleagues who have used, or currently use, these facilities to take part in a short photoshoot on Wednesday 10 June at 10am, outside the training suite on the 4th Floor West at Cunninghame House.
If you would like to take part, or find out more about the support available, please contact the HR Team: HROperationsTeam@north-ayrshire.gov.uk
This will support wider communications highlighting the Council as a breastfeeding-friendly workplace as part of Scottish Breastfeeding Week.
Fiona Walker Head of Service for People and ICT, shares: "Continuing to breastfeed whilst returning to work reinforces the emotional bond between mother and child, and therefore North Ayrshire Council is proud to be a member of the Breastfeeding Friendly Scotland scheme.
"Part of our Wellbeing Council Plan priority, we will continue to be committed to supporting women in their working environment and support the position that all new mothers employed by the Council should be able to continue breastfeeding when they return to work, if they choose to do so."
