Cut costs and carbon with online recycling portal

North Ayrshire Council is encouraging staff to redistribute and reuse surplus items of furniture and equipment in a bid to save money, tackle climate change and reduce unnecessary waste.
Named ‘Warp It’, we have been members of the online furniture and resource redistribution network since 2015.

Warp It has helped us to save more than 78,576kg of carbon dioxide, avoided more than 31,055kg of waste being disposed of, and saved more than £116,043 in procurement and disposal costs.

Warp It is an online reuse portal that aims to redistribute and reuse surplus items of furniture and equipment.

Items that can be reused through Warp It include reusable furniture, electrical equipment, fixtures and fittings, office consumables (such as stationery and ink jet cartridges), supplies and almost any resource.

Please note: equipment procured through IT should be disposed of using the IT device disposal process.

Items can be marked as internal (within the council), private (within your own dept), or external (available for use by our partner organisations).

As long as it is legal, it can be transferred. If you have any surplus items in your office, add it to the system, or if you are buying something search Warp It to make sure someone else does not have it spare. You can even set up a wish list and you will get alerts if the item you are looking for gets added to the system.

To start donating, swapping and sharing register on our Warp It online portal. Make sure you bookmark it, then click the big green button which says ‘register’ now. Once you register you will receive further instructions.

We use Warp It because it helps to reduce unnecessary procurement, reduces waste, saves purchasing and waste disposal costs, helps with building clearances, reduces supply chain waste and carbon emissions, improves collaboration between staff and shows leadership by sharing our surplus assets to partners locally and beyond.
