We all have a duty to stay alert

National Emergency Services & Resilience Week takes place from 14 to 20 September 2026.

This week provides an opportunity to recognise the work of emergency responders and resilience partners across the UK, while also raising awareness of the work we can do to keep our communities safe.

North Ayrshire Council employees are encouraged to learn more about national resilience and the importance of staying aware of potential security risks. Read the guidance from the Home Office highlighting how foreign actors can sometimes use online platforms and social media to approach people and request seemingly straightforward tasks, often without making their intentions clear.

The campaign aims to help people recognise unusual approaches and understand that even simple requests for information or photographs may not always be as innocent as they appear. Raising awareness helps individuals make informed decisions and contributes to stronger community resilience.

The guidance also explains that some people may be more susceptible to these approaches due to financial pressures, existing connections or access to specialist information. By understanding these risks, organisations and communities are better placed to provide support and signpost people to appropriate advice.

Employees are encouraged to trust their instincts and report anything that seems unusual. Concerns can be raised through the Anti-Terrorism Hotline on 0800 789 321 or via the ACT website. Reporting allows trained professionals to assess information and take any action required.
